Two-day strike announced at the Port of Piraeus

The Panhellenic Crew Union of Towage & Salvage has called for a 2-day strike at the Greek port of Piraeus starting from midnight of 22 Feb till midnight of 24 Feb. This is going to heavily affect the arrival and berthing of vessels at the port of Piraeus, which would also lead to heavy congestion once regular operations resume.

It has also been announced by Hapag Lloyd that towage service will not be available during the strike hours which would affect the vessels’ manoeuvring ability inside the port.

What the long-term effects of the strike will be, in terms of congestion and longer waiting times for the vessels arriving during the whole of this week, will be difficult to predict at this point in time.
