MAERSK EMERALD runs aground in the Suez Canal; suffers a minor delay

Mega containership MAERSK EMERALD (IMO: 9502910), belonging to Maerskline, reportedly suffered a mechanical malfunction and ran aground in the Suez Canal, on the morning of May 28. The ship was refloated with assistance from workboats and taken to the Great Bitter Lake, where she was anchored in the afternoon.

The crew is said to have fixed the problem with the ship resuming its voyage. The containership is en route from Tanger to Salalah Oman.
