Containership CONTSHIP NEW comes under pirate attack

According to Dryad Global, a London-based maritime security firm, containership CONTSHIP NEW (IMO: 9373905) was attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea on 23 April 10:30 A.M. GMT. The ship was en route to Lome (Togo) from Port Owendo (Gabon).

Further updates are awaited; however, as of 26 April 06:30 A.M. GMT, based on AIS data, the ship’s current location is at the expected destination of the port of Lome.

In terms of pirate activities, the Gulf of Guinea is considered to be among the world’s most dangerous places for commercial ships. Nearly half of all reported attacks in the first quarter of 2021 have taken place here.
