With China reeling under the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak, global trade is taking a major hit.

As a result of the decline in trade, the majority of shipping lines have reduced their number of seaborne vessels on the Asian trade routes connecting China & Hong Kong with other major shipping ports around the world. One of the largest shipping alliances, the 2M Alliance, comprising of Maersk Line & MSC, has drastically reduced the number of port calls, to and from China, resulting in an increase in “blank sailings” also known as “void sailings”. This, coupled with the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday period, has drastically increased the number of blank sailings over the last months.

In order to help navigate this quickly changing seascape, Ocean Insights will be providing a consolidated list of blank sailings announced by various carriers.
